Clerics is also human being, C'mon!

It's very interesting to read that some people still argue about salary, payment or honorarium. Even it's about clerics. They're also human being, even never we heard complain from them. Didn't you see how many Clerics, "Uelemas" or "Dai" have sold their dignity and forgot their core tasks due to the strong attractiveness of money, politics, and being well known as "Islamic celebrities".

Too many wellknown and famous figure like KH Zainuddin MZ, then plays the game of politics. Or Abdullah Gimnastiar who ask people to be more patient due to the increase (sharp increasing) on fuel prices in 2005. I don't care if they do and run their own business, but I can close my eyes when they do politics and get closer and support the government decisions.

Why dont they just do their business, teach people and give the best sermon.
Why also some intellectuals could never see that welfare is the most important factor to let people work on the right track in a best way they can.

May be, may be some of the intellectuals are just the most hypocrite in Indonesia? Hm, now I understand it very well. Just remember, a good clerics never complain, but many steals or abouse their position in different way.

Regards,

ES

National News - August 19, 2006 (from "The Jakarta Post")

Over 150 Muslim clerics in each district in West Sumatra will receive a Rp 750,000 (US$82) monthly allowance starting next year as well as free medical treatment and a pension fund of Rp 100,000 a month.
"We'll propose funding for the program through the 2007 budget so the clerics will not have to work and can focus on running mosques," said West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fauzi.
He said the program was intended to make the mosque a place where people could study religion and talk to Muslim clerics whenever they wished, expressing hope the program would be imitated by the province's cities and regencies.
Responding to the program, sociologist Sri Setyawati of the Padang-based Andalas University said it was acceptable but the administration should not compromise funding for other important programs like education, public services or health.
"I have never heard Muslim clerics complain about their economic situation. Many have work and preaching is not their main job. Besides, they usually receive payment for their sermons. Do they really need the allowance?" she said. (JP/Syofiardi Bachyul Jb.)
